A delegation from the Department of Physical Education at National University of Tainan (NUTN) visited Australia for sports education and academic exchanges from February 4 to February 15, 2025. This project is part of the country’s New Southbound Policy, with a group visiting New Southbound countries. The objective is to engage in exchanges with the Australian College of Professional Careers (ACPC) to understand how Australia promotes sports education and academic discussions, providing a reference for domestic development.
During the exchange with ACPC, NUTN established communication channels and built friendships with the Australian institution. Both sides aim to develop a long-term partnership in physical education, professional development, and faculty/student exchanges. NUTN’s Department of Physical Education also presented lion dance instruments, hoping to foster the inheritance and development of lion dance art in Australia.
This academic exchange not only strengthened mutual understanding between NUTN and foreign organizations, but it will also serve as a foundation for future cultural exchanges, including sending Taiwanese schools to Australia for off-site training and major team sports events. This will facilitate the implementation of Taiwan’s national sports policies.
Founded in 1992, the NUTN Folk Sports Team has long been dedicated to promoting the cultural spirit of Chinese folk sports and preserving folk arts. The team’s scope has expanded to include various traditional folk sports, such as dragon dance, lion dance, drum formations, diabolo, martial arts, and more. The team is regularly invited to perform at large events and festivals and has represented Taiwan in countries such as Singapore, Australia, Japan, and Hawaii. Each year, the Department of Physical Education recruits students for folk sports and actively cultivates talent in this area. Graduates of the program perform excellently, showcasing exceptional professional skills, and continue to shine in both domestic and international competitions and cultural promotion.
